![]() We recommend that you carry out the following personality tests with your team:Įven though these two tests may set you back a couple of dollarooskis, they’re 100% worth it because they provide you with a clear idea of the type of people you have working in your team. Now that you know the downsides of having more than one entrepreneur or manager in your team…how can you identify people in your business that exhibit managerial and entrepreneurial personality traits? One manager will have a specific method for measuring and evaluating the performance of the team while the other manager might have a completely different approach to evaluating and communicating with the team. Think of having two managers in a business as having two coaches for one athlete. Much like you can have two entrepreneurs right under your nose without you noticing, it is possible to end up with two people in your team exhibiting strong managerial personality traits such as being Team-Oriented, Performance Driven and Compassion. Obviously they both will be very creative and come up with great ideas but eventually, their ego or competitiveness will be the biggest downside, and inevitably, they will clash. Think of having two entrepreneurs in your business as having 2 captains navigating the same boat. This means you could have two entrepreneurs in your team without you even knowing. Entrepreneurs can have very strong personality traits such as Strong Sense of Self, Vision, Low Emotional Intelligence and Impatience, and the thing is that some people could exhibit those personality traits without even being an entrepreneur. Just like anything else in life, having too much of the same thing is never a good thing and this couldn’t be more accurate when it comes to office culture. That’s when managers come into play, their ability to manage multiple tasks and different people is what makes them great at carrying out projects to completion. Entrepreneurs are extremely talented at starting projects based on their great ideas but they’re not the best when it comes to finishing each project. Routine and Homeostasis can be considered the two worst enemies of any entrepreneur since they are always in the pursuit of innovation. On the other hand, since managers are significantly more involved with all the employees from different departments, they tend to have a better understanding of the culture in the office.Īs a result of being visionaries, entrepreneurs tend to be thinking 5-10 years into the future when coming up with new ideas and this may cause them to come off as having their heads “in the clouds”. Most entrepreneurs tend to not have the best emotional intelligence, as their personality and ego may influence their understanding of the culture in the office. Emotional intelligence may be the biggest differentiator between entrepreneurs and managers. Even though managers could be great visionaries too, their focus is really on implementing plans and day to day operations. Entrepreneurs can be categorised as visionaries since they are often thinking non-stop of innovative ideas. To truly understand the difference between these two species, try to think of people in terms of visionaries and implementers. Very good at executing tasks and ensuring projects are completed. Very good at starting projects and not finishing. Let us start first by differentiating entrepreneurs from managers because they most certainly are two different species.įocus on the long term (5-10+ years ahead) Sorry to disappoint but we don’t actually know any Entrepreneur/Manager jokes. An Entrepreneur and a Manager walk into a bar……….
